Nasceu em 6 de maio de 1913 em Londres. Durante os anos 30 trabalhou como ator coadjuvante no cinema británico. Estudou arte dramática e chegou a tornar-se um ator respeitável com filmes como como "Fanny by Gaslight" (A. Asquith, 1944) e "A mansión de los Fury" (M. Allégret, 1947). Em Holywood interpretou papéis de aventureiros: "As minas do Rei Salomão" (C. Bennett y A. Marton, 1950); "Scaramouche" (G. Sidney, 1952); "o Prisioneiro de Zenda" (R. Thorpe, id.); "A Rainha Virgem" (G. Sidney, 1953); "Salomé" (W. Dieterle, id.); "o bela Brummel" (C. Bernhardt, 1954); "tentação Verde " (Green fire, A. Marton, id.), "Os Contrabandistas" de Moonfleet (F. Lang, 1955); "Pasos en la niebla" (A. Lubin id.); "A Última Caçada" (R. Brooks 1956); "A Cruz do meu Destino" (G. Cukor, id.); "Harry Black y el tigre" (H. Fregonese, 1958); "Terra do Ouro" (H. Hathaway, 1960); "Sodoma e Gomorra" (R. Aldrich, 1962). Em 1956 obteve a nacionalidad americana y e nos anos 60 trabalhou em producões europeias. Faleceu em 16 de agosto de 1993.
