Apesar de ter surgido no final da era dos musicais, Cyd Charisse foi sem dúvida a dançarina mais "classuda" do cinema e o mais destacado par de pernas. Nunca foi uma grande atriz, mas quando dançava era uma "bela dinamite", como afirmava Fred Astaire. Cid Charisse nasceu no Texas em 8 de março de 1921. Seguiu carreira como bailarina do Ballet Russo, onde conheceu seu primeiro marido, o professor de dança Nico Charisse (1939/47). Casou-se em 1948 com o cantor Tony Martin, com quem montou um espetáculo nos anos 60, quando já realizava produções de segunda na Europa.
